Coldplay Releases Spacey ‘Coloratura’ Track: Stream It Now

Coldplay released the new track “Coloratura,” the second ahead of their ninth studio album Music of the Spheres, on Thursday (July 22).

“Coloratura” is the 10-and-a-half-minute closing song of Music of the Spheres, which was produced by Max Martin and will be released on Oct. 15. The British pop-rock troupe will release the next proper single in September after “Higher Power” from May, which broke into the top 10 of Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay (No. 4) and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs (No. 7) charts.

According to a press release, “Coloratura” is “an exhilarating, space-bound epic that includes namechecks for Galileo, Oumuamua and Betelgeuse.”

Music of the Spheres is the follow-up to their 2019 double album Everyday Life, which led the Official U.K. Albums chart and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. It also received a surprise Grammy nomination for album of the year, its first nod in that category in 12 years. Chris Martin and co. announced the album on Tuesday via a handwritten note on their Twitter account, along with a cosmic album visual, Overtura, on YouTube.

The forthcoming LP will span a dozen tracks, five of which were teased only with emojis.
