Austin City Limits, iHeartRadio and Music Midtown Festivals dropped DaBaby from their fall lineups on Tuesday (Aug. 3) after his homophobic tirade at Rolling Loud Miami in July. DaBaby issued a formal apology for his comments on Monday (Aug. 2).
The rapper has now been dropped from six music festivals in the last few days, after Day N Vegas and Governors Ball removed him from their lineups on Monday and Lollapalooza announced his removal from the festival on Sunday. The 2021 edition of iHeartRadio Festival is slated for Sept. 17-18, where DaBaby was set to take over the Daytime Stage alongside Olivia Rodrigo, The Kid LAROI, Saweetie, 24kGoldn and many more at Vegas’ AREA15. Music Midtown is scheduled for Sept. 18-19, while ACL Festival will commence on the weekends of Oct 1-3 and Oct 8-10.
ACL Festival wrote on its Twitter account, “DaBaby will no longer be performing at Austin City Limits Music Festival — lineup update coming soon.”
Music Midtown removed DaBaby’s name from its lineup and posted the new graphic on Twitter with the message, “DaBaby will no longer be performing at Midtown Music Festival. Lineup update coming soon.”
iHeartRadio Fest issued the following statement to Rolling Stone: “DaBaby will no longer be performing at the iHeartRadio Music Festival Daytime Stage.” The festival has not made any similar statements on its social media accounts.
The Blame It on Baby rapper issued a formal apology on his Instagram account on Monday (Aug. 2) after he lost the initial trio of festival gigs. “I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless,” he wrote in a lengthy note before signing off with his stage name.
The controversy stems from DaBaby’s July 25 set at Rolling Loud in Miami, where he told the crowd, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up. Ladies, if your p—y smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking di– in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”
His upcoming shows include a performance for Hot Jamz 103 Summer Jam in Kansas on Aug. 14 and Hot 97’s Summer Jam at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey on Aug. 22. DaBaby is repped by Andrew Lieber at MAC Agency.
