Lorde + Jack Antonoff + a rainbow guitar = magic.
The pop star released the third video from her live recording sessions shot at the Electric Lady studios with Antonoff ahead of her highly anticipated third album Solar Power, which arrives Aug. 20. The previous two were both performances of the record’s lead single and title track “Solar Power,” the first being a breezy rooftop concert and the second being a violently windy, “summer storm” version.
This time, Lorde delivered a delicate performance of her latest single “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” surrounded by a collection of plants and wearing a flowing yellow dress, on her YouTube channel Thursday (Aug. 5). Antonoff sits beside her playing a red, green and yellow gradient electric guitar.
Earlier this week, Lorde was featured on “Diary of a Song” with The New York Times’ Joe Coscarelli, where she went into detail about the making of “Solar Power.” She’s also scheduled to headline Good Morning America’s first in-person concert as part of their 2021 Summer Concert Series, taking place in Central Park on the album’s release date.
To the excitement of her fans, the typically AWOL singer-songwriter has been exceptionally active in the press circuit ahead of the album’s release. She’s recently performed on Late Night With Seth Meyers and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, appeared on First We Feast’s online series Hot Ones with Sean Evans, talked with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, and answered 73 Questions for Vogue as part of their ongoing series. She’s kept her fans, or as she sometimes calls them “sensitive cuties who worship the sun,” updated on her press appearances through a regular bulletin sent out to her mailing list.
“I’m really enjoying the deep weirdness and analogue nature of this outlet,” she wrote in her most recent email, which had the subject line “A very busy little girl!” “I suppose one can think of it like snail mail social media, and if I were on regular social media I’d probably be reposting the link to something I’d been in, with a cute and not yet overused emoji or two, so — this is that bit.”
