Taylor Swift Narrates & Soundtracks Olympics Promo Hyping USA Women’s Gymnastics

“Life can surprise you,” Taylor Swift says in a brand-new promo for NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. And as it turns out, your favorite pop star can surprise you too.

Swift narrates the new promo — which is soundtracked by her title track from 2020’s Evermore album with Bon Iver — and hypes up her fans for the women’s gymnastics individual all-around competition, airing at 8 p.m. ET Thursday night (July 29) on NBC. Team USA women’s gymnastics has been grabbing headlines all week because of Simone Biles pulling out of competition. The new promo references the unexpected pair of Sunisa Lee and Jade Carey leading the way for Team USA in Biles’ place, with Carey starting the week out as an alternate.

“Life can surprise you. It can humble you. It can test you. It can inspire you,” Swift says in the promo, over footage of the women practicing. “They didn’t expect this to be the story. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t ready for the spotlight. They’ve worked for this. They’ve dreamed about this. They belong here. So don’t be surprised as the story takes flight from here, in the women’s all-around in Tokyo.”

The promo ends with “Suni & Jade” flashing across the screen, as the two teammates fist-bump in celebration.

“Couldn’t have said it better ourselves, @taylorswift13,” NBC wrote in a tweet sharing the promo, which Swift retweeted.

The competition went down early Thursday morning U.S. time, but NBC’s primetime coverage will show (spoiler alert) Lee winning all-around gold while Carey finishes in eighth place.

They’ve worked for this.
They’ve dreamed about this.
They belong here.
